Tetepare Island
The Last Wild Island of the South Pacific
Tetepare Island MapTetepare Island, in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands, is the largest uninhabited island in the South Pacific.

Covering an area of approximately 120 square kilometres, Tetepare supports pristine lowland rainforest and a rich inshore marine area.

Tetepare Island has been recognised both nationally and internationally for its conservation significance and archaeological values.
Ecotourism
Tetepare Island EcotourismThe Tetepare Descendants’ Association welcomes visitors to Tetepare to enjoy the unspoilt beauty of the island on foot and by boat.

Activities on Tetepare can be as relaxed or challenging as visitors wish. Rainforest walks, crocodile and bird watching, snorkeling within the reef and in the Marine Protected Area, demonstrations of customary plant usage, visits to cultural sites including remnants of old fortresses and village sites from head hunting days are all possibilities.

Opportunities are also available for visitors to assist TDA rangers with resource monitoring of turtles, coconut crabs and bird counts. The TDA rangers and tour guides have much traditional knowledge about the plants and animals of Tetepare and look forward to sharing this with visitors.

Tetepare Descendants’ Association can also arrange daily and multi-day visits to villages on neighboring islands. One very special opportunity exists to visit the communities of Baniata and Havilla on Rendova Island where visitors can enjoy the hospitality of people who still practice a very traditional way of life.

During the leatherback turtle nesting season from October to January, visitors can also participate in an innovative conservation program to conserve leatherback turtles, and enjoy watching these spectacular animals emerge from the sea at night to lay their eggs.
