The Lodge Boat (self drive – and check out the lagoon yourself!)

If you like, you can explore the Gizo lagoon by yourself. We have one dedicated 19 foot long boat for the exclusive use by yourself.

The boat is powered by a very economical 9.8Hp outboard motor (up to 3 litres per hour depending on the throttle position) – fast enough for trawling and very safe to “potter” around the lagoon or visit Gizo.

As you can see from the photo, one doesn’t need a big boat to catch big fish! You will be given a 15 minute lesson/demonstration by one of our staff on how to operate the boat.

Please note, the boat is not insured and a disclaimer has to be signed by the guests. Be sure you go slow enough to not hit any reef (coral) as a new propeller costs us SBD2,100 and would be charged to the you. Any unnecessary call out fee for Sanbis Resort staff to visit you where ever you are, is SBD200.00

A fantastic way to visit Kennedy and Olasana islands, explore Gizo and have fun by yourself - without “supervision”! Fishing rods and lures can also be hired from Sanbis Resort. 35 or 50Lbs overhead reels and rods are available at SBD160 per day, lost lures around SBD160 (for example, Halco 190 series). Lost rods and reels will be charged at Australian cost plus freight, handling and SI taxes (don’t laugh it has happened before – more than once!).

The boat will be removed from The Lodge jetty after sun down by one of our staff (to look after it over night with the rest of the fleet) and will be returned in the morning at around 7.45am. If you would like to use the boat before that time, please talk to our staff and the night security officer will deliver it to your jetty at 6.00am.

The Lodge Boat The boat is provided free of charge, fuel is charged at cost. Please make sure the boat is always fuelled up before leaving for a trip. You can visit our staff at the resort workshop to refuel the tank. Please watch out for coral bommies once you go behind the SB Bar – it gets VERY SHALLOW – put the engine into “shallow drive”! Best is to use a paddle for the last 20 metres before reaching the...
