Snorkel on our In-house wreck and check out the Giant Clams

In 2008 we sank a 110 foot long Tuna fishing ship at the edge of the reef in front of about the 5th Bungalow (from the Restaurant). The ship lies in about 9 metres with the deck being only about 5.5 metres from the surface.

There are lots of fish and coral is starting to grow nicely. We also have a small Clam farm. Clams are a fantastic water filter and assist in accelerated growth of the coral. A very important ingredient of the reef, especially after the destruction witnessed during the 2007 Earthquake/Tsunami. In front of the Main Jetty there are about 10 large and very colourful clams in very shallow water (you can see them when standing at the end of the Jetty). About 35 metres further out, you will find cages with many small clams in them. Once they grow larger than about 200mm in length

we transplant them onto the reef. By 2011, 160 Clams have already been planted on the reef in front of the resort.

A day out at Olasana Island (our private island)

Sanbis Resort has leased for you a block of land at a nearby Island (Olasana). This is one of the most popular destinations to get marooned for the day. It is also very private and hence you should not get disturbed whilst there. We have built a small leaf roof with a wood BBQ. Staff can prepare BBQ materials, food and tools with firewood for you. The driver can drop you off and pick you up later at a pre-determined time.

A fantastic area for snorkelling, there is a nice sandy beach, plenty of shade and usually crystal clear waters. John F. Kennedy and his PT109 crew in 1943, actually spent 3 days at exactly that spot until they were rescued by a US Navy team from the PT base at Rendova Harbour.

The cost SBD800 per boat plus cost of the BBQ (up to 8 persons).

Visit the F6F Hellcat

You can snorkel on the F6F Hellcat, which was shot down by Pappy Boyington during WWII. The plane is on the edge of a reef in about 9 metres depth. If you leave after Lunch (say 2.00pm), this trip also includes a fishingm trip on the way home. The best time to return home is at about 4.30pm –you are most likely to catch Spanish mackerel. Great value if combined with a short fishing excursion.

The cost for the Boat with driver is SBD2,400 (up to 6 persons).

Skull island Trip

A great day out – a very popular trip on a fine day, travelling through the Vona Vona Lagoon. You will come past many islands and also will have the opportunity to snorkel on the F6F Hellcat along the way (see above). A great value trip, if you combine it with a fishing trip on the way home (surcharge of SBD500). Leave Sanbis at about 10.00 am, visit Skull Island, have lunch at a nearby resort (Zipolo Habu) and get home by about 6.30pm

(if fishing is included).

The cost for the Boat with driver is SBD3,100 (up to 6 persons) plus lunch at Zipolo Habu plus custom fee (SBD50/person).

Kennedy Island

Although Kennedy island is no longer a public area (it has recently been bought by Solomon Islands Resorts Ltd) currently we can still visit nearby Kennedy island (to ensure – please check with our staff).
There is quite good snorkelling around some areas. Best is to combine it with an Olasana Island trip at a surcharge of SBD50 for the boat.

If get dropped off whilst the driver is waiting for up to two hours– the cost for a boat, up to 8 persons is
SBD500.00. If dropped off and picked up at a later time, the cost would be SBD600.00

Reef Fishing Trips

Catch most likely King Fish (Spanish mackerel), mahi Mahi, Coral Trout, Wahoo, Dogtooth Tuna, Barracuda and others. This is done using a single 100Hp boat with an experienced fishing guide. Two lines are usually used at the same time. It includes all gear except that lost lures are charged at our cost plus 20%. The cost for the boat with guide/driver is SBD520/hour

Deep Sea Fishing Trips

This is done using a twin engine (2 x 100Hp) boat, equipped with GPS Chart Plotter, Life Jackets, VHF Marine radio and phone. A great trip to the FADs (floating platforms, anchored in excess of 3,000 metres of water – the deep blue). The distance to the FADS (we call them rafters) varies from 18 to 28 nautical miles from Sanbis Resort.

Around the FADs can be an abundance of big Yellowfin Tuna and other big pelagic fish. Give us a ½ day’s notice to prepare the boat and to research which FADs are active or not. The boat leaves at about 4.30am (to ensure to reach the first FAD by about the first day light) and usually returns at about 10.00am.

The cost for the boat with 2 guides/drivers is SBD920 per hour.
