Ropiko was originally set up by the Piko family in 1994 as Ropiko Eco Lodge. The newly built accommodation buildings are right on the oceans doorstep, all rooms have private amenities and fans making for a perfect nights sleep as well as safes available for peace of mind while out and about.
Whether you’re here to relax or explore Ropiko can cater to everyone. Activities include world famous diving and snorkeling, walks to the local village (and up Gatokae’s mountains if your keen), World War II site visits, whale watching, visiting an underwater volcano and kayaking or if that’s all to much you can simply relax on the beach.
Using home grown organic vegetables, fruits and fresh fish, one of our delights is the food. Our chef will prepare wholesome dishes, cooked in local styles with a western flavor. All prices include breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Environmental sustainability and community support are at the center of our business. We take pride in doing everything we can to support local ecosystems and give back to the villages surrounding the resort while allowing them to preserve local cultures.
Ropiko has 3 different room types which can be configured in multiple ways. All rooms have modern amenities, quality linen and towels, ceiling fans, mosquito nets on all windows and tea and coffee making facilities.
Walk or boat (extra charges apply) to Kavolafota village to experience the traditional village life; learn about the local fruit, vegetables and medicines, learn to weave and grate coconut, even feed the friendly eels living in the local river.
Scattered through Gatokae Island are a number of World War 2 artefacts. Sites include the Japanese plane that crashed in 1944 and lies intact in the resort gardens and 4 intact boats that sank in Welkom Harbour.
WALKS AND TREKS
Take a 30 min stroll to a nearby cave system and see the many types of bats that live there or climb to the lookout at Chili for stunning views over the lagoon and surrounding area.
UNDERWATER VOLCANO VISIT
Experience something completely different. Take a two hour boat ride out to Kavachi underwater volcano and see it explode out of the water.
Marovo Lagoon and the surrounding area is renowned for its diving spots. Not only is there an abundance of fish, coral and marine life but also many WWII wrecks to explore. All diving equipment can be hired from local dive operations.
Just out from the Resort the reef is full of marine life; huge coral, schools of fish and even the occasional turtle. Walk to other spots in the lagoon for more spectacular scenery. Hire of snorkel and mask is free
The Resort has a private sandy beach that is safe and exactly what's needed to cool off. If you're after something different take a short stroll to where an underwater river enters the sea, its much colder!
Boat, canoe and spear fishing is available at the resort. Our local guides can show you all the good spots and provide basic gear.
