The Resort & how to get there.
Our boat transfers take you past a myriad of small waterfront villages, through crystal clear calm water, past huge coconut palms and lush tropical rainforest to our proposed resort site nestled on an uninhabited island surrounded by magnificent scuba diving and
snorkelling areas of delicate corals and white sandy beaches. For more information on other areas of the Solomons, click here; Village Stays Western Province and Marovo Lagoon
Western Province is the most visited region of the Solomon Islands. Their Cultural Histories
The Western Province was an area feared for head hunting in the 19th Century. The use of human heads or skulls was central in the burial customs and death beliefs of many of the Marovo Lagoon islands' people.
Frequent raiding took place between islands in search of heads that were used in many rituals including burials and the launching of new Tomoko (war canoes). Raids extended not only within Marovo Lagoon, but also as far as Guadalcanal and Isabel.
Prior to about 1850 the situation had calmed down for a long time during the so-called "Great Peace"; however, the arrival of Europeans with iron axes to trade quickly destabilized the region leading to renewed raiding.
The Proposed Project
Marovo Lagoon Resort will be built to World's best Practice. The directors of Hiro Hove Resort Limited are committed to ensure that the principals of Ecologically Sustainable Development are incorporated in every facet of construction of the resort.
The developers are committed to a training, educational and working program to assist the local village people and their children in their simple, sustainable, hassle free way of life. |
