The Area

Western Province is the most visited region of the Solomon Islands.

It is home to many Melanesian and some Kiribati (settlers from the Gilbert Islands in the 1950's and 60's) tribes who appreciate and welcome visitors.

The province has as its centrepiece the largest double barrier lagoon in the world, Marovo Lagoon, nominated for World Heritage Listing. Literally thousands of islands scatter the lagoon.

Inside the lagoon, the islands are surrounded by spectacular coral formations and white sand beach, the lagoon waters shimmering in every shade of blue, turquoise and jade green.

The remoteness of this area with hundreds of islands make it amazingly special.

It's people are friendly, unhurried, unstressed and enjoy a simple, sustainable way of life.

It's third world status is only due to monetary reasons ... certainly not lifestyle, the natural beauty and abundance of sea life is awesome.

Staying at our Eco Lodges you'll be one of very few travellers in the area. However most locals speak understandable English, are fairly well educated and have a deep religious belief.

They are more than happy to chat, show their carvings or give you a wave from their dug out canoes.

The Surf

The southern area of coastline has rarely been surfed as the few surfers that have visited the Solomon's go to Gizo and Skull Island north west of Marovo Lagoon.

The crew from
Go Tours Travel produced a successful promotional tour for TRACKS and were among the first in this remote area, however there's still plenty of exploring to be done.

Things to do

Marovo Lagoon has plenty of local village activities on offer from excellent walks to huge waterfalls as well as snorkelling on some of the best and most unspoilt reefs, night spotlighting for coconut crabs or arrange a local boatman to take you fishing and to visit their food markets is a real treat.

As far as nightclubs, TV or video, phone, cars etc are concerned you won't find them here.

It's the "Ideal Stress Relief" holiday
