Dive & Solomon Charters Offers the only large game fishing in the country and the sport is still very much in its infancy in these fish rich waters. These fish do not know what a lure is and they bite hard and fight even harder. Fish Galore Game fish include Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, Broadbill, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Dolphin Fish, Rainbow Runner, Dogtooth Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Giant Trevally, Coral Trout, Red Seabass, Jobfish, Sweetlip, Emperor and much more. For the fly fisherman there is Bonefish, Mangrove Jack and Spottail Bass amongst others. The MV Amanda Jane The boat is a 10 m Power Cat built to the tough Australian Survey requirements. The wide beam combined with the twin hulls driven by two 210 Cummins diesels provide a stable working platform. There are 2 fishfinders, a chair, outriggers and a downrigger. Fishing equipment consists of 80 W Tiagra's, 50/80 Beastmasters, Penn Senators and Penn Spinners. We give you a choice of over 350 lures. A lot of the fishing is done near Fish Aggregation Devices (FADs) and Submarine Volcanoes. The majority of Billfish are tagged and released.
ECONOMY fishing can be done on the Reef Rat a 23 ft longboat set up with quiet twin Honda's, a shade canopy and centre console for walk around fishing. This boat specializes in reef and river fishing, but also gets large numbers of sailfish and marlin to 120 kgs. We carry a good range of medium and light tackle from 25 kg down. Fly fishermen are catered for, but they have to bring their own gear. The Fishing Most of the fishing is TROLLING, but POPPER casting and LIGHT SPINNING has gained enormously in popularity recently. POPPERING has produced Giant Trevally to 60 lbs, light lure casting has accounted for Spottail Bass up to 25 lbs. JIGGING heavy metal has done well on a variety of fish including Dog Tooth Tuna and Yellow Fin Tuna to 28 kgs. Much bigger fish have been hooked jigging but have proved unstoppable on the lighter tackle. FLY FISHERS have captured Mahi-mahi (Dolphin or Dorado), Trevally, Mangrove Jack, Jumping Cod and Spottail Bass amongst others. TROLLING has accounted for Marlin to 320 kgs, Sailfish to 68 kgs and Yellow Fin to 72 kgs amongst the bigger pelagics. Closer in Spanish Mackerel, Dog Tooth Tuna and Great Barracuda to 20 kgs are regular captures. The fishing is done around some of 20 FADs (Fish Aggregation Devices), lots of SUBMERGED REEFS and SUBMARINE VOLCANOES scattered throughout the area. ESTUARIES and RIVERS are being accessed also as well as large shallow SALTWATER FLATS The Accommodation The Gizo Explorer Hotel is situated on the waterfront of Gizo, and offers comfortable accommodation, poolside relaxation, and access to some of the most beautiful sites of the Solomon Islands.
