Top End

The Northern Territory is not one but two distinct geographic region. In contrast the stark, imposing beauty of the Central Australia or the "red centre" the "Top End" is a lush, tropical paradise.

Here, east meets west with spectacular results. Nowhere is this more evident than in Darwin where Asian influences rub shoulders with traditional
Aboriginal and Australian cultures.

Darwin is relaxed and refreshing, with it's multicultural marketplaces,
nightclubs and diversity of activities. The weather is mostly sunny and the people are always warm.

Then just hours out of Darwin are a wealth of untouched natural wonders.
Most famous is the World Heritage Listed Kakadu National Park, a land of tropical wetlands, spectacular gorges, diverse wildlife and cascading
waterfalls.

Come and experience the majestic Top End.

Kakadu National Park;

Three hours drive from Darwin and light years from anything you've ever witnessed lies Kakadu National Park. It's untouched beauty stretches from
Arnhem Land's 200 metre high sandstone escapements, to the mangrove flats of Van Dieman's Gulf and almost to Katherine.
Kakadu is home to a vast array of birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects and plants.

Cruise the crocodile- filled Yellow Waters. See ancient Aboriginal rock art at Nourlangie Rock and Ubirr and cross spectacular floodplains and grasslands. Even the sunsets are breathtaking.

Arnhem Land;

This sacred land is home to many Aboriginal clans speaking 40 different languages. Entry by permit only has ensured its culture and natural beauty
remains unspoiled.
Stroll the white sandy beaches in the north, admire the rock art and bark paintings. Here you will find the Cobourg and Gove Peninsulas with their pristine waters and some of the best fishing in the World. Arnhem Land is unforgettable.

Katherine;

Just 314 km south of Darwin, lies Katherine on the Stuart Highway. This charming, modern town also serves as gateway to the spectacular Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk), Editrh Falls, Cutta Cutta Limestone caves, the Flora River National Park and the Elsey National Park. Pan for gold in Pine Creek or go on a fishing adventure.

Katherine beholds a wealth of natural attractions
and rich heritage.

Beyond the Territory;

Further afield from the Top End lies the Kimberleys and the spectacular Bungle Bungles on the northern tip of Western Australia. The historic pearling town of Broom with its Cable Beach and of course magnificent Lake Argyle.

Barramundi Fishing;

Experience fishing in one of the Territory's estuarine eco systems. The diversity is exceptional, you have the opportunity to chase the hard fighting saltwater barramundi, threadfin salmon and mangrove jacks in the creeks.

Self Drive Packages;

The majority of the Top Endıs main attractions are accessible by sealed
roads.

Getting There;

While fling is the fastest and probably the most convenient way of traveling to the Top End, many people choose to travel there by coach.

Kakadu, Katherine and Litchfield Experience;

Enruote to Kakadu National Park join the Adelaide River Queen for a Jumping Crocodile Cruise. Witness spectacular 360 degree views from the ancient Aboriginal rock art site of Ubirr.

Watch the awesome sunset over Yellow Waters wetlands before overnighting at Cooinda. The next day visit the Barramundi Gorge and travel down to the historic Pine Creek.

Enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool waters of Edith Falls before overnighting near Katherine. Sit around the camp fire marvel at the amazing amount of stars and exchange tales with other travelers.

The next day relax and enjoy a cruise on the famous Katherine Gorge or canoe your way around.

Get a good night sleep before exploring the wonders of Litchfield National Park with it's waterfalls, tropical woodlands and pockets of monsoon rainforest.

Boulia camel races

The professional camel racing circuit is about to hot up in Queensland's Outback.

The central west towns of Boulia and Blackall are ready to greet the professional camel racing stables and thousands of visitors.

The Boulia Desert Sands race meet on July 19-21 is the biggest professional meet in Australia with a prize pool of $30,000.

The tiny town of Boulia, on the edge of the Simpson Desert, swells from 300 to 2000 as people flock to see the heats and trackside entertainment, including the famous wild camel catching competition on Friday night and two country music concerts.

Legal bookmakers add an extra spice to this action-packed event.

Those who can't make it to Boulia should check out the Blackall Black Stump Camel Races on Saturday, July 27.

This is the best time to visit Queensland's Outback with clear sunny days and brisk, starlit nights.
